As the deputy was attempting to take cover, the suspect closed the door on the deputy and backed into an LCSO vehicle leading to a pursuit into Fairfax County. Law enforcement lost sight of the vehicle. There were no serious injuries reported to any of the deputies. Park Police helicopter assisted in the search. He initially refused to come out of the wood line and was armed with a knife.
He ultimately surrendered and was taken into custody. The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries. The vehicle he fled in was discovered in a nearby wooded where he abandoned it after being involved in a single-vehicle crash.
Settles was charged with attempted aggravated murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, two counts of assault on law enforcement, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, hit and run, two counts of resisting arrest, eluding, brandishing, and driving on a revoked license.

The deputies were attempting to serve multiple warrants on him from charges out of several neighboring jurisdictions. The LCSO later received information that the suspect was seen on foot in the same area he was located. Charges are currently pending in Loudoun County. Update: The suspect is in custody. More details to follow. Settles, 48, was last seen on foot in this area and is believed to be armed. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, black pants, and red suspenders. The vehicle has not been located at this time. The suspect fled from LCSO Deputies in a vehicle after they were attempting to serve multiple warrants from neighboring jurisdictions. More details will be released as they become available.
